Hosta ‘Road Rage’ is a 2018 registration from Doug and Mardy Beilstein, raised as a seedling of ‘King of Spades’. Collectors prize it as a distinctive conversation piece that pushes the puckered look of cultivars like ‘Leapin’ Lizard’ into even more dramatic territory.
The green leaves are heavily corrugated and further distinguished by irregular ridges that rise upward from the surface, creating a uniquely textured, almost sculptural effect that varies from leaf to leaf. The overall appearance is boldly unconventional rather than refined.
Lavender flowers appear on the scapes in August and September. The plant is fertile, offering hybridizers an interesting parent for further work with extreme leaf texture.
