Registered in 1986 by Florence Shaw and Paul Aden, ‘Blue Angel’ is a classic hybrid from the cross ‘Aden 365’ × ‘Aden 361’ and remains one of the most admired large blue hostas for serious collectors.
Its thick, blue leaves carry a heavy glaucous bloom, with gently wavy margins and light corrugation; the foliage is deeply veined yet relatively smooth rather than heavily puckered, giving a refined, architectural presence.
In June and July, near-white flowers open on tall scapes in dense, hyacinth-like clusters held just above the foliage, offering a clean contrast to the blue leaves and limited fertility for those interested in hybridizing.
